Afya Plus is part of the consortium led by Christian Social Services Commission (CSSC) and also involve Catholic Relief Services (CRS) which has been awarded by USAID a five years (2023-2028) Comprehensive Child Centered Care and Services (C4s) Activity which has an overall goal of ensuring health facilities in priority areas provide high quality integrated pediatric HIV services and that children and adolescents are able to access comprehensive health and other services. The C4s Activity is being implemented across 11 USAID supported regions in Tanzania: Arusha, Dodoma, Iringa, Kilimanjaro, Lindi, Manyara, Morogoro, Mtwara, Njombe, Ruvuma, and Singida and is focusing on providing technical assistance to end mother-to-child-transmission of HIV (eMTCT) by supporting pregnant and breastfeeding women (PBFW) and their HIV-exposed infants (HEI), close the HIV treatment gap for children and adolescents living with HIV (C/ALHIV) and drive TB elimination and well-being for C/ALHIV in Tanzania. Also, on ensuring the continued delivery of HIV services for PBFW, HEI, and C/ALHIV at two pediatric centers of excellence (COE) and support these COEs to serve as hubs for service delivery and clinical capacity building. Similarly, advance support to the National AIDS Control Program (NACP) and the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Program (NTLP) to end HIV and TB among children and adolescents aged 0-19 years old and inform policy decisions and discussions at the national level with the Ministry of Health, and other key stakeholders and as well coordinate implementation. The C4s Activity primarily concentrating on the following strategic objectives: –

  1. Provide technical assistance to health facilities to increase access to quality comprehensive child-centered health services.
  2. Strengthen national policies and systems to improve C/ALHIV outcomes.
  3. Sustain quality HIV and TB services to C/ALHIV at pediatric centers of excellence.

In the consortium, Afya Plus is specifically responsible for: –

  • Supporting integrated social service systems for children and adolescent health and wellbeing, including OVCs.
  • Enhancing linkages and bidirectional referral systems between projects to optimize resources for children and adolescents.
  • Community-led Monitoring (CLM) to generate evidence-based information established from gathered feedback from service recipients to address issues and/or client recommendations for improving access and quality of comprehensive child-centered health services for better treatment outcomes.
